Consultation
I offer complimentary 20 minute phone or video consultations to help inform your sense of me as a potential therapist. If you are new to counselling, I encourage you to take time to find the ‘right fit’ of counsellor for you specifically. I often recommend meeting several therapists so you can see how unique the experience can be with each one. You will have the most success when you feel the person is ‘right’ for you.
Of course I will be a kind person to meet, that does not necessarily make me the ‘right fit’ for you. Right now it’s a very personal assessment that I don’t take personally.
Let’s chat and find out.

The First session
First sessions often involve discussing the risks and benefits to counselling, your rights and my ethical duties in the counselling relationship, confidentiality agreements and limits, and informed consent. Then you will have an opportunity to share what is bringing you to counselling at this time and begin to collaboratively create goals based on the changes you would like to experience.
Confidentiality
Clients are entitled to confidentiality with their therapist. This means that I will not be sharing any information with any other party without your written consent. I am, however, legally obligated to disregard confidentiality and report to the appropriate government or community authorities when the safety of yourself or others is imminently at risk. This includes disclosed intent to imminently harm yourself or others, and suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable person. Additionally, I am obligated to share my clinical notes if subpoenaed by a court of law.
